About the Role
Responsible for the financial performance of the Chinese Mainland (CML) business, providing financial leadership, ensuring effective and efficient financial and commercial management, and a sound financial control environment.  The job holder will be a member of the Education Finance Leadership Team (FLT) and the CML Senior Leadership Team (SLT) 


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivering the financial results of the CML business within the Education Division
  • Work as a leading of the CML Senior Management Team (SMT) to provide insight into business performance and to recommend actions to improve results and achieve business goals
  • Provide high quality and proactive finance leadership to CML, supporting the MD, GM and their SMT in the delivery of the commercial agenda for the business
  • Work as part of the SMT to devise and deliver strategy, including deciding upon the appropriate allocation of resources and targeted investment
  • Hold business to account for major business cases, ensure appropriate governance and tracking mechanisms in place to ensure return on investment
  • Responsible for the delivery of the annual planning cycle, including five-year plan and budget
  • Responsible for the financial considerations required in investment decision making and ensuring major commercial decisions taken within the business are made with sound commercial judgement, clear assumptions, robust analysis and appropriate governance (e.g. ensuring relevant approvals from the UK and/or Hong Kong are sought in a clear and timely manner)
  • Under the guidance of the Finance Director, OUP Hong Kong, ensure the statutory control environment is maintained, that the internal control framework is adhered to, and internal/external audits are effectively supported.
  • Under the guidance of the Finance Director, OUP Hong Kong, liaise with Group Tax and ensure compliance of all tax and transfer pricing filing and reporting in accordance with the local laws
  • Under the guidance of the Finance Director, OUP Hong Kong, work to ensure accurate reporting of the pre and post contract services and content consultancy services from OUP Shanghai in support of deals between the HK business and its customers in Chinese Mainland
  • As a member of the Education Finance Leadership Team (FLT), work collaboratively to develop the divisional finance organization

 

About You

  • Professional Finance qualification
  • Significant experience in senior finance roles in a multi-national organization    
  • Initiative and ability to successfully implement new ideas, with drive to push through.
  • Trusted advisor who is commercially astute and has a proven track record of driving business development and change initiatives
  • Demonstrates gravitas and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to management teams
  • A strong communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills (English and Mandarin)
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within an organisation
  • Experience and knowledge of the publishing industry is desirable
