As an Outsourced Services Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality content creation through strategic supplier engagement. This role offers the chance to work on a wide range of print and digital products, contributing to a team that manages over 3,500 supplier engagements annually with a budget exceeding £4 million. You’ll be part of a collaborative and dynamic environment that values continuous improvement, innovation, and customer focus.

Opportunity – the ‘what’

As the Outsourced Services Lead, you will:

  • Source and contract third-party content creation services in line with OUP’s policies and governance.
  • Manage supplier relationships from onboarding through to final delivery and payment.
  • Make decisions to balance quality and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to plan and execute outsourcing activities using standard rate scales.
  • Monitor supplier performance and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records in internal systems to ensure visibility of spend and budgets.
  • Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives.

Your impact will be felt across Publishing & Content Operations and Product Planning, helping deliver approximately 1,500 products annually and ensuring supplier engagements are efficient, compliant, and high-quality.

 

About You

Essential Criteria

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Resourceful problem solver with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive, action-oriented attitude.
  • Experience in publishing or a similar industry.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, including reporting and purchase order creation.
  • Experience with contracts and third-party content creation suppliers.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience (e.g., qualification in Purchasing and Supply Management).

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of the publishing lifecycle across Editorial, Design, and Media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe software.
  • Background or interest in English Language Teaching (ELT).
