Opportunity – the ‘what’
As a Rights Associate, you will:
- Assist in responding to inquiries from business units, editorial teams, and Group Legal.
- Support workflows related to contracts, permissions (inbound/outbound), and rights selling.
- Clear third-party assets, identify risks, and contribute to mitigation strategies.
- Draft contracts using templates (author contracts, rights sales, permissions letters).
- Conduct text and image research, liaise with suppliers, and manage copyright fees and purchase orders.
- Collaborate with product teams on third-party content matters.
- Maintain accurate records in the Rights Management System (RMS).
- Support the Rights Sales team with pre- and post-sales activities.
- Ensure deals are correctly set up in IPM/systems for invoicing and income allocation.
- Provide final files for licensing deals and maintain up-to-date customer data.
- Liaise with finance and compliance teams.
- Help organize presentations for IP awareness and RMS demonstrations.
Your work will directly support OUP’s publishing operations, ensuring legal compliance, risk mitigation, and efficient rights management.
About You
Essential Criteria
- Good understanding of copyright law and rights/permissions best practices.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging across all levels and cultures.
- Ability to manage confidential information professionally.
Desirable Criteria
- Familiarity with legal terminology.
