About the Role
Introduction – the ‘why’
This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to OUP’s Higher Education publishing programme by supporting editorial operations across multiple content teams. You will work at the centre of critical workflows that enable academic content to move smoothly from acquisition through production, helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and readiness for onward production stages.
Joining this team provides exposure to a wide range of editorial processes, digital tools, and industry‑standard systems (including Oxford Publish, ERP/S4 HANA, iThenticate, Adobe Sign, and others). Opportunity – the ‘what’
On a day‑to‑day basis you will:
- Support Content Acquisition & Development and Upper-Level Content teams with editorial tasks, including manuscript markup, digital content QA, handover preparation, permissions log creation, accessible‑feature requests for media, file naming and uploading to servers and systems.
- Complete administrative tasks, such as processing author/contributor contracts, payments (authors, contributors, reviewers, vendors), and gratis orders.
- Ensure tasks are completed accurately, on time, and with clear communication to editorial teams and external contacts where needed.
- Follow and apply guidelines for markup, permissions, artwork logs, and handover procedures.
- Assist in ensuring smooth progression of projects by tracking schedules, raising concerns early, and maintaining clear records of progress for visibility across teams.
- Support one‑off operational tasks (e.g., updating system records with correct e‑pub ISBNs).
- Document and maintain workflows and contribute to improvements in systems, guidance materials, and processes.
- Actively learn and undertake training on systems and processes using documentation, job shadowing, and support from peers.
